The goal at the Family Birthing Center at San Ramon Regional Medical Center is to deliver family-centered care as you welcome the newest member of your family. The Family Birthing Center offers all the amenities and staff necessary to make the experience the best possible so that you feel safe and at home

Family Birthing Center amenities include:

Birthing suites

Each of the comfortable private birthing suites allows you to deliver and recover in a private room. The rooms are each equipped with an adjustable birthing bed and the medical equipment needed for the birth of your baby.

Family-centered care

Nurses typically work "one-on-one" with patients in labor, which makes the bond between nurse and family especially trusting and comfortable. It is both personal and professional. Our nurses care for our mothers on 12-hour shifts so they may be with you through labor, delivery and recovery.

Pediatrician access 24/7

Pediatricians from UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital Oakland are here around the clock. If your personal pediatrician is not available, our in-hospital pediatricians provide care for your baby throughout the hospital stay. They attend births, monitor the healthy newborns and care for babies who need extra attention in our special care nursery.

Level II Special Care Nursery

Sometimes births don’t go exactly as planned. Should your baby need intensive higher level of care, we have a Level II special care nursery on-site and a neonatologist on call every day, around the clock.

Newborn Hearing Screening Program

Newborns have their hearing checked before they go home. Early detection of hearing impairment is crucial to reaching normal developmental milestones.

Childbirth Education Classes and Hospital Tour

We offer helpful classes designed for expectant parents to cover prenatal care, prepared childbirth and infant care. You'll also want to register for a tour of the Family Birthing Center to get acquainted with the hospital prior to your delivery. A tour begins with an orientation to the Family Birthing Center and a visit to the birthing suites, private rooms, and nursery. Lactation Services

Breastfeeding is natural but it is not always easy. Questions always arise and when they do, we have experienced nurses available to answer them. Is this a proper latch? What are the benefits of breast milk? Is my baby getting enough milk? For these questions and countless others, our trained nursing staff offers answers, techniques and suggestions to help facilitate your breastfeeding success.

A Commitment to Security

Infant security is a high priority here. The Family Birthing Center is kept locked and all visitors are screened. When you are admitted to the Family Birthing Center, we will acquaint you with our security procedures and provide you with the information you will need.
