Programs to help you with your medical expenses
We are committed to providing you with quality care and will work with you and your insurance carrier to help manage costs.
If you do not have insurance coverage, we do have alternate funding and payment plan options available. Here are some of the financial assistance programs we provide:
Medical Eligibility Program (MEP)
Our MEP program is a hospital service we provide to you at no cost. You may qualify if you are under the age of 21 or over 65, or have children in the household, are pregnant, potentially disabled, or have been a victim of a crime. We have patient advocates available to assist you with the process. You may also qualify for the following government programs:
- Temporary Assistance for Needy Families
- Social Security Disability
- Supplemental Security Income
- County Indigent
- Victims of a Violent Crime Fund

Charity Care Program
Charity Care Program may cover all or part of your hospital bills based upon your household income. You must meet one of the following criteria to qualify:
1. You have no insurance or third party that will pay all or part of your bill and a family income of no more than 400% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines.
2. You have a third-party insurance coverage but you do not receive a discounted rate from San Ramon Regional Medical Center due to that coverage. Your annual out-of-pocket costs for medical expenses must exceed 10% of your family income in the last 12 months.

Uninsured Discount Program
If you are uninsured, you are eligible for our Compact with Uninsured discounts. Our Patient Advocates can assist you with understanding all of the rules of eligibility.

Summary of our Charity Care Policy
If you are unable to pay your bill for emergency or other necessary care at San Ramon Regional Medical Center, you may be eligible for financial assistance under our Charity Care policy.; Before considering you for financial assistance, we will work with you to identify and apply for third-party coverage, to the extent available.
If you have a remaining balance after exhausting other coverage options, you may be eligible for financial assistance. We offer free or discounted care for emergency or other medically necessary services to patients who qualify. Generally, charity care will be available based on the following guidelines:
- If your family income is at or below 400% of the Federal Poverty Limit ("FPL") for the current year, you may be eligible for free care for the dates of service for which an application is completed; and
- If your family income is above 400% of FPL, you may be eligible for a sliding scale discount on charges for care provided on the dates of service for which an application is completed.
Our Charity Care policy describes our procedures and requirements in more detail. In addition to your completed application, we may require documents evidencing your income, assets and medical expenses to determine whether you qualify for assistance. If you do not qualify for charity or discounts under our Charity Care policy, you may still be eligible for self-pay or other discounts under our other policies

San Ramon Regional Medical Center will not charge patients who are eligible for financial assistance more for emergency or other medically necessary care than the amounts we generally bill to individuals who have insurance covering such care.
