Treatments & Procedures

At San Ramon Regional Medical Center’s Sports Performance Institute, our highly experienced specialists are dedicated to providing our patients with individualized treatment plans following a sports injury. Among the most common treatments and procedures for sports-related injuries:

ANTI-INFLAMMATORIES

Doctors use non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs along with strengthening programs to treat mild to moderate pain associated with inflammation.

BRACES AND SLEEVES

A brace is used to provide external stability to the injured joints and encourage healing. Braces and sleeves help strengthen the muscle while reducing pain and inflammation.

CORTICOSTEROID INJECTION

Medication, such as a corticosteroid injection, is an important part of a treatment protocol for joint injuries. A caregiver will inject a dose of corticosteroid directly into the joint to decrease inflammation.

IMMOBILIZATION

Often the best treatment for a sports injury is immobilization. Doctors may recommend the use of a cane or walker as part of an ongoing treatment for injuries.

MAKOPLASTY® MINIMALLY INVASIVE SURGERY

Doctors turn to MAKOplasty for joint repair and replacement because it is a minimally invasive surgical procedure that uses advanced robotic technology. This precise surgery for hip and knee injuries results in less scarring, reduced pain and a faster recovery time.

PHYSICAL THERAPY

Physical therapy is an integral component of a doctor’s approach of treating sports injuries. A doctor will recommend physical therapy after surgery or as an ongoing regimen to treat your injury.

RICE

RICE is an acronym that stands for Rest, Ice, Compression and Elevation. Caregivers recommend that you follow the RICE protocol to limit pain and swelling after injuries, such as sprains, strains and severe bruises or bumps.

SURGERY

Doctors recommend surgery as a treatment option for a variety of sport injuries. Today’s surgical treatment options, such as minimally invasive surgery and robotic surgery, combined with advanced post-op protocols, are designed to help speed healing so patients can get back to life quickly.
