San Ramon Regional Medical Center Collects Nearly 6,000 Servings of Cereal

Jun 16, 2023

San Ramon, Calif. – June 16, 2023 – San Ramon Regional Medical Center is proud to announce that it donated nearly 6,000 servings of cereal to the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano, during its annual Healthy Over Hungry Cereal Drive, which ran from June 5-12, 2023.

The donations collected will help provide local children and adults struggling with hunger with a healthy breakfast. Good nutrition is essential to good health, and summer is a particularly tough time for many food-insecure families because children can no longer rely on schools for nutritious meals, putting an added burden on these families. Whole-grain cereal, when part of a healthy, balanced breakfast, is a popular food item that experts say can help address the hunger gap during the summer months when children are not in school.

“We understand the health issues children face from hunger and poor nutrition,” said Warren Kirk, CEO of San Ramon Regional Medical Center. “Many households rely on food banks and other food programs to have access to the healthy meals they need to thrive. We recognize the importance of beginning each day with a nutritious breakfast and, through this drive, we are proud to help many in our community struggling with food insecurity.”

Each month, 1 in 5 residents turn to the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano for emergency and supplemental food. Many community members are unable to make ends meet and the food bank helps them cover one of life’s basic needs – nutritious food. The food bank strives to serve all people experiencing hunger or food insecurity in Contra Costa and Solano counties and they are committed to never turning anyone away.
