Guidelines for Our Visitors 
 
 
 
 

Visitors may be good medicine for a patient, and family and friends are welcome to visit. With patient care as the primary concern, please consider:

  • General visiting hours are 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Two visitors at a time are optimal.
  • Visiting children are to be closely supervised by an adult.
  • Extended visiting hours may be arranged with the nurse in charge. 
  • There may be times that visitation is restricted for patient rest and privacy.
  • To protect our patients, we ask that only healthy people visitor patients in the hospital.
  • We encourage every visitor to wash their hands before and after visiting each patient.   Hand sanitizers are available.

The additional visitor guidelines for specific nursing units are listed below. Please speak with the nurse in charge regarding exceptions.

Critical Care Units (ICU/CCU)

  • Only members of the immediate family may visit.
  • Two visitors at a time are allowed and at intervals of 10 minutes each hour. 
  • Please use the telephone located in the waiting room to call the nurses' station before entering ICU/CCU.
  • Minimum visitor age is 12.
  • No visitors are allowed during change of shift hours which are 7 a.m. to 8 a.m., and 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.
  • During any patient emergency in ICU, visitors may be asked to leave the patient care areas.
  • No cards, flowers (live or silk), or balloons are allowed in the ICU.

Family Birthing Center

  • Minimum visitor age is 16 unless the visiting child is a sibling of the newborn.
  • Children must be supervised by an adult at all times while visiting the hospital.
  • Father/significant other or one designated adult may spend the night with the patient.
  • Only parents may visit the Neonatal Intensive Care Nursery.

Medical/Surgical (Diablo) & Definitive Observation Unit (DOU)

  • Minimum visitor age is 5.
  • Overnight visitors are discouraged, except for pediatric patients.
  • Parents or parent substitutes of pediatric patients can visit anytime.
  • One parent is encouraged to stay overnight with their child.

Outpatient Services/Emergency Department 

  • Family members may visit at the discretion of the resource nurse/shift manager.
  • A close friend may visit when there is no family member.
  • Patients with contagious conditions may be asked to wear a mask while sitting in the waiting room.

Calls to Patients

Calls may be transferred from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. or direct dialed to a patient's bedside phone. Direct-dial numbers will be provided by the hospital operator at the main number, 925.275.9200. In consideration of the status of critical care patients, please limit the number of direct patient calls to ICU/CCU.

Café Ramon

Visitors may eat in the dining room or take their trays to the patient rooms. Complimentary coffee and tea are available in the Café Ramon dining room, and vending machines are located in the hall just outside the Café. Serving hours are as follows:

Monday – Friday

  • 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. – Breakfast
  • 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. – Hot Entrée                                    
  • 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. – Sandwiches, Salads & Soup       
  • 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. – Hot Entrée                                    

Saturday, Sunday and Holidays

  • 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. – Hot Entrée, Sandwiches, Salads & Soup
  • 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. – Hot Entrée, Sandwiches, Salads  & Soup

Cornerstone Gift Shop

Located in the front lobby and operated by hospital Volunteers, the Cornerstone Gift Shop sells flowers, stationery, candy, games, personal items, toys, and gift items. Cash, checks and credit cards are accepted. Items may be purchased by phone and delivery arranged by calling 925.275.8404.

The shop hours are:

  • Monday to Friday – 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.                       
  • Wednesday Evenings – 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.                        

Quiet Room

Located near the front lobby, the hospital's quiet room is always open for private prayer and meditation.

Smoke-Free Environment

San Ramon Regional Medical Center provides a smoke-free environment within the hospital building. Smoking is permitted only in designated areas:

  • Public courtyards outside the building
  • Thirty feet from outside entrances as indicated by blue lines
