San Ramon Regional Honored for its High Performance

By Gary Sloan, Chief Executive Officer, San Ramon Regional Medical Center

San Ramon Regional Medical Center has provided high-quality, compassionate medical care to our community since 1990. We are proud to announce that the hospital received Tenet’s 2010 Circle of Excellence Award, honoring its hospitals that have achieved the highest levels of quality, service and operational performance. Key metrics used to evaluate the hospitals were patient, physician, and employee satisfaction scores; clinical quality; and financial performance.

We appreciate the important role our physicians, employees and volunteers play in achieving this honor. They provide high-quality care and enable outstanding patient satisfaction.

Readers of Bay Area Parents magazine voted our Family Birthing Center the Family Favorite. We were a runner up in a similar readership survey with Parents Press. I’m proud of our accomplishments, and I am delighted to be honored with these awards. We thank our entire hospital team for their commitment, support and hard work.

Electronic Medical Record Phase 2

In September 2011 San Ramon Regional Medical Center launched the second phase of its electronic medical record system, Computerized Provider Order Entry (CPOE). With CPOE, physicians will enter orders into a secure computer system. The system is designed to improve patient safety, and will allow physicians to access clinical rules, alerts, and references while making clinical decisions at the point of order entry.

With the new computer system, physicians will have more patient knowledge at their fingertips than ever before. This knowledge is shared by clinicians and caregivers in all departments at the time they enter the information, including:

  • Latest vital signs and trends
  • Lab and radiology results
  • Home medications upon admission
  • Allergies
  • Diagnoses

Additional clinical knowledge available on the system for physicians to consider when determining the treatment for a patient, include:

  • Evidence-based order sets
  • Clinical research and evidence
  • Core measure and quality rules and alerts
  • Medication interactions and contraindications

We thank Anitha Angan, M.D., our physician champion for this project, and the entire group of employees and physicians who have worked so hard work to ensure that we have a successful go-live day.

New Emergency Department

The opening of the newly expanded Emergency Department (ED) is an important milestone in this hospital’s history as we respond to our community and physician expressed needs.  The construction was completed on time and on budget in April 2011. The new ED features a spacious, well-lit patient waiting room, private patient rooms, dedicated X-ray suite, advanced emergency equipment, physician dictation room, negative-pressure isolation room for patients with highly contagious diseases or who have been exposed to toxic materials, a two-bed trauma room for cardiac, stroke and accident patients. Refurbishment of the original Emergency Department area will enhance our capacity to serve your patients.

The hospital has launched a new online service, InQuickER, which allows people to sign up on our website (www.OurSanRamonHospital.com) to hold their place online for non-life threatening emergency care. The person can wait at their home, not the Emergency waiting room until their projected treatment time. There is a $9.99 InQuickER registration fee, which will be refunded by InQuickER if our healthcare staff does not see the person within 15 minutes of the projected time.

Remodeled Laboratory

The Clinical Laboratory has been remodeled. It includes a new and enlarged patient registration and blood draw area located just inside the hospital north entrance.  The Laboratory is designed to increase efficiencies for chemistry, hematology and the blood bank areas.

Medical Offices in Gale Ranch

In January 2011, the hospital opened the new San Ramon Regional Medical Pavilion in the Gale Ranch shopping center, located on Bollinger Canyon Road at Dougherty Road. There is office space for four physician groups. Currently there is an obstetrics/gynecologic and pediatric practice in the building. A family medicine practice will move in the in fall, and one other practice will following in the future.

Imaging Center in Pleasanton

In 2010, San Ramon Regional acquired an MRI center in Rose Pavilion, located off Santa Rita Road near the I-580 exit in Pleasanton. We are expanding the Imaging Center to include CT, X-Ray, ultrasound, mammography, DEXA bone density, as well as the MRI. The remodeling will be complete by January 2012.

Future Projects

In 2012, the hospital will build a new Cath Lab with advanced technology adjacent to the ED.  A second Cardiac Catheterization Lab is essential to the sustained growth of our Cardiac Services.  Plans to expand the Pharmacy next year are under way.

Stroke Center Project

San Ramon Regional has made great strides in launching a Primary Stroke Center by the end of 2011. As part of the process, Kulveen Sachdeva, M.D., neurologist and program medical director; and Sarah Kiyoi, R.N., project coordinator, have worked hard to achieve this goal by implementing stroke core measures, training staff, educating the community, and other requirements set by The Joint Commission and the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association. The hospital will serve as a stroke receiving hospital through Contra Costa County in 2012.

Thanks for Your Support

We would like to thank our hospital team for their hard work and support spanning San Ramon Regional Medical Center’s 21-year history.  We appreciate our patients and community, and look forward to providing you and your family continued quality care for the years to come.
