DIABETES SELF-MANAGEMENT EDUCATIONAL SERIES
The Diabetes Management Program at San Ramon Regional Medical Center offers a monthly educational series for adults with Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes. This program is recognized by the American Diabetes Association. Each two-hour class is held weekly for four weeks .
Barbara Reis, R.D., Certified Diabetes Educator, will instruct the classes with other speakers.

WEEK ONE: Factors in development of Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes, signs and symptoms, blood glucose monitoring, normal and abnormal glucose metabolism, overview of self-management and emotional aspects. Practice with glucometers. Blood pressure measurement will be offered.
WEEK TWO: Healthy Eating with diabetes, carbohydrate counting, reading food labels.
WEEK THREE: Balancing diet, exercise, medications (both oral and insulin). Exercise segment with Kim Howard, D.P.T., Therapy Services Supervisor.
WEEK FOUR: Diabetes Complications: Prevention & Treatment, Stress Management. Foot care segment with Jennifer Barnes, R.N., WOCN. DiaBingo game!
Medicare and most insurance companies will reimburse for the cost of the educational series.

Pre-register by bringing the signed physician referral form and your insurance information to the Admitting Department at San Ramon Regional Medical Center, 6001 Norris Canyon Road, between 6 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday thru Friday, before the first class date.
