   Wound & Ostomy Care Program

San Ramon Regional Medical Center offers comprehensive inpatient and outpatient wound and ostomy care services. Both new and continuing patients may benefit from comprehensive assessments, advanced treatments and compassionate counseling.

An experienced group of medical specialists are available through the program to review and evaluate all treatment plans, and work with the program clinical care coordinator, a board-certified wound and ostomy nurse.

Wound care services include:

  • Assessment – Following a comprehensive examination, the medical team provides a detailed work up for wound-healing risk factors and a comprehensive treatment plan.
  • Photo Documentation – As part of the ongoing evaluation process, digital photography documents the progress of wound healing.
  • Treatment Plan – A comprehensive treatment plan is developed for each patient. Plans may include treatment products and medications, dressings, and patient education.
  • Follow-up Care – During the healing process, staff monitors and assesses the treatment needs.

Ostomy consultation requires specialized and sensitive care. The program is designed to meet the needs of the active person with a new or existing colostomy, ileostomy or urostomy. The enterostomal nurse meets with individuals and their families before and after surgery, and continues to provide ongoing education and support. Long-time ostomy patients may benefit from counseling, fittings, updated appliances and other services.

Ostomy care services include:

  • Pre- and Post-Operative Counseling – Helps prepare and assists patients in adjusting to life with an ostomy.
  • Appliance Fitting – Patients are fitted or refitted with appliances suited to individual needs. Newer appliances have been designed to be more comfortable and easier to use.
  • Skin Problem Management – Treats skin irritation, pouching and other problems.
  • Support Resources – Provides patients with referrals to appropriate product suppliers and social support networks.
  • Community Resources – Refers patients and family members to support groups, social workers, psychologists and home health workers.

Medicare and most insurance plans are accepted.
