Integrating Computer/Robotic Technology and Surgery

San Ramon Regional Medical Center (SRRMC) is a leader in the integration of computer/robotic technology and surgery. Our hospital was the first in the United States to perform laparoscopic aortic bypass surgery (June, 1995) and was the first hospital in the world to have voice-activated robotics used in surgery (July, 1996). San Ramon Regional Medical Center has three operating suites dedicated to advanced laparoscopic and endoscopic procedures, featuring robotic and voice-activated equipment.

Model Program Highlights

Listed are some of the highlights, features, and accomplishments of our model program:

• Nationally and internationally recognized surgical pioneers in laparoscopic surgery.
• Defined the advanced laparoscopic operative suite with the integration of revolutionary new robotic and computer technology to enhance surgeon performance.
• Use of mini-laparoscopy with 2 & 3 mm micro-instrumentation imparting less post-operative pain, scarring, and a more abbreviated recovery time.
• Specially trained surgery staff with extensive experience in laparoscopic procedures.

In January 2000, San Ramon Regional Medical Center introduced the Bay Area Heart Institute transferring its minimally invasive expertise into a new area, cardiovascular surgery.

In late spring of 2000, San Ramon Regional Medical Center purchased the da Vinci™ Surgical System, continuing the hospital's leadership in use of computer/robotic technology in surgery. The first fallopian tube reconnection surgery with the da Vinci™ Surgical System in the U.S. was performed at San Ramon Regional Medical Center.

Minimally invasive anti-reflux surgery is offered in the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease at the Heartburn Treatment Center.
